What We're Doing

The NightGuard Initiative is tackling light pollution through a blend of education, advocacy, and innovation. Our team works closely with city planners and municipalities to design and implement smart lighting ordinances that reduce glare, skyglow, and unnecessary nighttime illumination. We offer community lighting audits to help neighborhoods identify problem areas and provide recommendations for safe, energy-efficient alternatives.

Education is key to our mission. We partner with schools, libraries, and local organizations to host workshops on how artificial light impacts sleep, wildlife behavior, and climate. Our curriculum is tailored for all ages and emphasizes practical steps people can take in their homes and communities.

NightGuard is also developing open-access tools that visualize light pollution levels in real time, empowering citizens with data to support policy change. We work to help towns and cities qualify for “Dark Sky Community” status, encouraging thoughtful urban design that prioritizes both safety and stargazing. Whether it's helping a rural town switch to warmer LED lighting or advising urban centers on zoning codes, our mission is clear: protect the night so future generations can experience the stars.
